Movie review: Water And All That Jazz

Is is just me, or are anyone's arms getting tired..?

Release date: June 21, 2011

Greg talks about joining the swim team and wanting to join the Water Jazz Class instead.

I will admit Greg trying not to keep up in Jazz Class and saying “have fun and be healthy” is pretty funny. Other then that, recycled jokes from Rodrick Rules.

WANNA SEE ME PUT MY TOE IN MY LEFT NOSTRIL?! – Fregley

Seriously, when does school start? –Holly

So, this is not by Greg or Holly, it’s by Fregley. Yes, Fregley has a crush.

So he talks about it in this short, weird 1 minute video, with clips of him trying to ‘woo’ Holly with weird actions that his mom told him to do to ‘treat a lady’ in this clip.

I’m gonna say I’ve never seen Holly’s emotions involving anything other then a laugh, a smile or confusion. So here we see “desperate-to-get-away-from-weird-guy” face.

Peyton List is a good actor. So is Fregley’s actor, but he’s too weird for my liking.

Movie review: My Zoo-Wee-Vacation!

Release date: June 21, 2011

So, this is just recycled punchlines from Rodrick Rules [the book] about Rowley’s diary and his vacation. The only thing different is that his diary isn’t a birthday gift. Really boring, cash grab, but still, extra Wimpy Kid content, and Rowley’s face is pretty funny in the second-to-last shot.

Movie review: My Magick Summer

I light Rowley's hair on fire with a torch!!

Release date: June 21, 2011

My Magick Summer is a one minute video project done by Greg Heffley put on My Summer Vacation’s Blu-Ray fun pack for the home media release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules and Greg talks about playing Magick and Monsters.

So, I’ll say it’s pretty decent, but it could be way longer. But I have a feeling that if it was longer there would be no new punchlines and just copied scenes from the book.

Oh, and Greg dabs Rowley up in this. Pretty funny.

Book review: The Do-it-Yourself Book

u r a dork

Release date: June 1, 2011

Okay, so you might be thinking “Why would he review a fill-in book?” Because the 2011 re-release has 26 pages of comics. The comics are written by Rowley, Greg, Fregley, and we also get to see continuations to other comics from the first book in the series.

The book itself is very fun, but my only issue is that there should be more activities, to keep you occupied for longer, like with Big Nate. And definetly more comics, like Dumb Teachers. Anyways, the comics are pretty funny, and give you a sense of humor of the students at Greg’s school. I will say Fregley has a funny style.

But the highlight of the book is the prototype of Rowley’s diary (which would then turn into it’s own book in 2019). It shows how bad of a friend Greg is and how innocent and gullible Rowley is. It’s just not some comics for fun, it gives us more depth on the characters.

Enough said, these are funny comics, but sometimes bad (like Girls Rule and Skaters)

Movie review: Fregley’s Shuffle

I'm Fregley, and I like dancing.

Yet ANOTHER short film on the DVD & Blu-Ray. In this one Fregley’s not doing anything disgusting or weird, but he is dancing and talking weirdly. It’s just a short video where he shows off his dancing. Light hearted, and meant to be funny. Although there should’ve been two Chirag videos, and not two Fregley videos.. One is enough for Fregley.

Some unnecessary video filters, but pretty cool ones like when FOUR Fregleys dance into the shot (in front of Westmore).

Movie review: Fregley’s Scavenger Hunt

So I put them together and I made fudge fries!

Release date: January 19, 2011

Yet again more DVD-exclusive but also YouTube available Wimpy Kid short videos. I’m going to say it straight up, right now. I HATE FREGLEY. SO MUCH.

Yeah, sure, I feel bad for the guy, having no friends, but he’s straight-up AIMING to make sure nobody comes to him. Toenail necklace? FUDGE FRIES? Techincally half-eaten fudge fries. And he doesn’t even put them in plastic. He puts them in an OLD TREASURE BOX.

This video disgusted me the whole 2 minutes and 35 seconds. I wanted it to be over so bad so I could write a very bad review. And the video finished. So I wrote a bad review.

Movie review: Chirag’s Trail of Tears

Not good!

Release date: January 19, 2011

Judging by just the titles, you might think this is one of those r/LodedDiper fan creepypastas, but this is nothing like that. This is a 2 minute short movie featured on the Diary of a Wimpy Kid DVD from August 2010.

This is a pretty funny short video where Chirag talks about his expierence with bullies (yes, including Patty) which has a sad feeling to it at the middle section with the music, but is overall a pretty funny video! It’s also a reason to get the DVD, for special Wimpy Kid things you haven’t ever seen in theaters. But it’s also on YouTube.

Anyways, pretty funny with a sad feel to it for short times, but good!

Movie review: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Movie

I always figured they'd make a movie about my life. But I didn't think they'd start the story here. Because, seriously, who wants to see a movie about a kid who's stuck in middle school with a bunch of morons?

Release date: September 9, 2010

After 10 years in the work in the book industry, Fox started work on Diary of a Wimpy Kid's film adaptation in 2008. As someone who’s read the 18 main books, I’ll say this is a faithful adaptation!

The characters in the book are all mediocre, I’ll say. But in this one, you can actually understand the characters more, and they are better people.. not including Roderick or Patty. I hate Rodrick and Patty.

At some times, the animation is a bit sloppy and is nothing special. But this is one of the BEST FILMS I’VE EVER WATCHED, DUDE!!

This movie is even more relatable then the book. I don’t know why, but when the actions are being done and you can see everything, it hits harder then having someone just describe it to you by their probably biased perspective.

Book review: The Ugly Truth

See, when you're a little kid, nobody ever warns you that you've got an expiration date. One day you're hot stuff and the next day you're a dirt sandwich.

Release date: November 10, 2010

a.k.a Rowley's Revenge

So, I’m getting really close to puberty and from what I’ve heard, it’s a pretty crappy expierence. Well, the Ugly Truth makes it sound amazingly funny.

Jeff Kinney was thinking about ending the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series on the fifth one, the Ugly Truth. And if he did, I would just say it would have been a solid ending.

See, the book series has a running gag of making getting older suck and that the ugly truth is that school is not as easy as some put it out to be. this book is 217 pages dedicated to that. It would’ve been an honestly understandable way to end it but I am glad that it didn’t.

This book is essentially a Part Three to The Last Straw, and it is the best one out of them.

Many people like saying that Greg is a bad person but in this we get to see how many jerks are at his school, and in his own extended family. We get to see more in the history of Greg and his extended family, and this is why I love it. So much.

The Ugly Truth is one of the best books I’ve ever read. And you should read it too. However, there is something missing, and I don’t know what..

Book review: Dog Days

The lesson I learned is that some people won’t think twice about using you, especially when there’s a country club involved.”

Release date: October 13, 2009

In the last review (The Last Straw) I stated that book was essentially a Part 1 to this book. Normally, I think sequels are superior compared to the original. Not in this case if I will be honest.

Of course, the book is funny (especially the parts at the Bombshell salon and about reading) and a good read but I DO have some complaints. Out of all the Wimpy Kids published in the 2000s, Greg is the worst in this one. He talks about God as if the only reason he’s Christian is because he wants to get everything his way, and he treats Rowley like a slave during the lawn service thing.

Secondly, his whole crushes thing during these books are insane. In the Last Straw, Holly doesn’t know who Greg is, so he just decides to have a crush on his older sister. Greg is essentially going a bit mad for her.

I will say that I did feel bad for Greg with the birthday thing, and it just does prove how Susan and Frank are bad parents. They assume that since Greg’s brother has done something wrong that he will do it too, so he doesn’t get a cellphone. Or does he…?

I will say I like the book, it’s the first book that inspired the “road trips” in the Wimpy Kid franchise. What I DON’T like is that plot being over-used. When you think that this book is essentially the reason for the most overused plot in the series, it makes you like it a tiny bit less. But forget that, it’s a good book.

Book review: The Last Straw

The only person in my family who didn’t come up with a resolution is my older brother, Rodrick, and that’s a pity because his list should be about a mile and a half long.

Release date: January 28, 2009

The Last Straw is one of the earliest books in the series and easily one of the best too.

While the storyline probably isn’t YOUR average run of the mill high school story, there are lots of scenes that make up for that with the charming and funny feels of them.

This book is essentially a Part One to Dog Days, the fourth book in the series, and essentially is better then that book. So if you’re looking for a book out of the two to read, I’d defs go for The Last Straw. It’s more realistic and has more funnier punchlines.

Greg’s dad is willing to send the boy to military school if he doesn’t straighten up, but in classic wimpy fashion, this is obviously not the case.

With a satisfying ending and amazing character development, this is a great book to read, in both the comedy category and in the author (Jeff Kinney) proclaimed "Wimpy World" category!

Book review: Rodrick Rules

Your-pa, dad-pa smells-pa like-pa a woman-pa!

Release date: February 4, 2008

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is one of the most anticipated books in the series, because Rodrick is one of the most popular characters in the community.

I will admit that I was a part of the Roderick phenomenon until I realised it was super stupid to have your opinions influenced by others. That being said, this is one of the best books in the series.

In this one we get to see more about Gregory’s family and the reasons for his bad behaviour. There are also multiple punchlines in this book that are funnier then in the last book. This is an incredible step-up and an AMAZING read!

Book review: Greg Heffley’s Journal

First of all, let me get something straight: This is a JOURNAL, not a diary.

Release date: February 5, 2008

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: the bestselling book and movie series. This is technically where it all started, and this is my review.

As you know, this is the story of Greg starting high school and aiming to become one of the most famous people there. Pretty simple story, but the book is amazing.

While I’m going to be in Greg’s age shoes in 2025, this book is nothing but funny and relatable content. Move over, Harry Potter, there’s a new book in town, and it’s funnier and more realistic.

Of course, my only complaint is how narcissistic Susan and Manny are, and while that’s an ongoing thing in this series, it just gets more and more annoying. Maybe in Book 19 (Hot Mess), Susan becomes a good mom? Who knows?

Book Review: Diary of a Wimpy Kid (online)

..if Rodrick ever finds out he's scrubbing toilets because of this book, I'm dead.

Release date: May 2004

If you’re a huge mega-fan of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, you should be familliar with the original edition published on Funbrain from 2004-2006 by Jeff Kinney which featured some early versions of the character drawings. The plots would later be recycled for the first 8 books of the published version by Amulet Books in 2007-2013.

This version is about 1000 pages longer (no, it really is) and has more scenes that would have gotten the book rated for 9 year olds and up (normally it’s 6 and up) and just fit more. The scenes in this one are funnier and more natural, but I will admit, some sections of the book were probably filler and not needed, but there are a lot more that make the book more realistic and funnier. if you print it out or read it on the web, you are guaranteed to laugh and be entertained for HOURS! :D
